State Rhode Island West Warwick is a town in Kent County, Rhode Island, United States.
West Warwick was incorporated in 1913, making it the youngest town in the state. Prior to 1913, the town, situated on the bank of the Pawtuxet River, was the populace and industrialized center of the larger town of Warwick.
The region that is now the town of West Warwick was the site of some of the earliest textile mills in the United States situated along the banks of the north and south chapters of the Pawtuxet River. These small foundry villages would play an meaningful part in the early evolution of the textile trade in North America.
According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the CDP has a total region of 8.1 square miles (21.0 km ), of which, 7.9 square miles (20.5 km ) of it is territory and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km ) of it (2.22%) is water.
The following villages are positioned in West Warwick: Arctic, formerly known as Jericho, in the center of West Warwick where most of the town municipal buildings are positioned Wescott, in northern West Warwick, home to the onetime Wescott train crossing The ethnic makeup of the town was 93.78% White, 1.11% African American, 0.35% Native American, 1.42% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other competitions, and 1.88% from two or more competitions.
In the town, the populace was spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older.
The 1810 Lippitt Mill is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is one of the earliest textile mills in Rhode Island. It was established in 1809 and the current dam was constructed in 1889.
The Mill is one of the earliest textile mills in Rhode Island and is one of the earliest American textile mills still used for manufacturing. Another foundry in the area, The Original Bradford Soap Works, dates back to the 1800s and is still in use today. West Warwick was recently titled the "Mattress Capital of Rhode Island." West Warwick has a council-manager form of government.
